Duplicating Posts, Pages, and Custom Post Types
Chada Duplicate adds three entry points to every enabled post type. Use whichever fits your workflow — they all produce the same result: a new draft that is a complete copy of the original.
Method 1 — Row action
- Go to the list table for the post type you want to duplicate (Posts → All Posts, Pages, or any custom post type screen).
- Hover over the row you want to duplicate. The row actions appear beneath the title: Edit | Quick Edit | Trash | Duplicate.
- Click Duplicate.
- WordPress redirects you immediately to the new draft in the editor.
The new post opens ready to edit. The title has the configured suffix appended (default: (copy)) and the status is Draft (or Inherited if you have changed the default status setting).
Method 2 — Bulk action
- On the list table, tick the checkboxes for all posts you want to duplicate.
- Open the Bulk actions dropdown at the top of the list and choose Duplicate.
- Click Apply.
- A success notice appears at the top of the screen confirming how many posts were cloned.
After a bulk duplicate you remain on the list table. The new drafts appear at the top of the list (most recent first). Use this method when setting up a batch of similar posts — for example, duplicating a template post ten times before editing each one individually.
Method 3 — Editor button (block editor)
- Open the post you want to duplicate in the block editor.
- In the Status & Visibility panel (top of the right-hand sidebar), click Copy to a new draft.
- Alternatively, click the ⋯ More options menu (three-dot icon in the toolbar) and choose Copy to a new draft.
- WordPress saves the current post (if unsaved changes exist) and then redirects you to the new draft.
Method 3 — Editor button (classic editor)
- Open the post in the classic editor.
- In the Publish meta box on the right-hand side, click Copy to a new draft.
- WordPress redirects you to the new draft.
What gets carried over
Every duplication method copies the same set of data:
- Title (with configured suffix)
- Post content and excerpt
- Author (original or current user, depending on settings)
- Parent post, menu order, and page template
- All taxonomy terms (categories, tags, custom taxonomies)
- All post meta, except the excluded keys listed in Settings
- Featured image
- Comments (only if the Copy comments setting is enabled)
The new post always starts as a draft
By default, duplicated posts are always created with the status Draft regardless of the original’s status. This prevents accidentally publishing a duplicate before you have finished editing it. You can change this behaviour to Inherit (match the original’s status) under Settings → Chada Duplicate → Default status.
