Duplicating WooCommerce Products

Chada Duplicate Updated 23 August 2026

Chada Duplicate works seamlessly on WooCommerce products, including variable products with multiple variations. The same three entry points available on posts and pages are also present on the Products list table and the product editor.

Using the row action on the Products list

  1. Go to Products → All Products.
  2. Hover over the product you want to duplicate.
  3. Click Duplicate in the row actions.
  4. WordPress redirects you to the new product draft in the editor.

Using the bulk action

  1. Tick the checkboxes for all products you want to clone.
  2. Choose Duplicate from the bulk actions dropdown and click Apply.
  3. A success notice confirms the count of cloned products.

Using the editor button

  1. Open the product in the product editor.
  2. Click Copy to a new draft in the Status & Visibility panel (block editor) or the Publish meta box (classic editor).

What gets cloned for WooCommerce products

In addition to the standard post data (title, content, meta, terms), Chada Duplicate handles all WooCommerce-specific data:

  • Product type — simple, variable, grouped, and external products are all supported; the type is preserved on the clone.
  • Product attributes — all attributes and their values are copied, including custom attributes and those linked to global attribute taxonomies.
  • Product variations — each variation of a variable product is individually cloned as a new child post and re-linked to the new parent. The full variation data (price, stock, attributes, meta) is preserved. This happens automatically — you do not need to do anything extra.
  • Product gallery images — the gallery image IDs are copied so the same media library images are attached to the clone.
  • Downloadable files — download file URLs and names are copied to the new product.
  • SKU — if the original has a SKU, the clone’s SKU is auto-suffixed with -copy (or a numeric increment) to avoid a unique-SKU conflict. You can edit it to whatever value you need after the duplicate is created.
  • Prices — regular price and sale price are copied by default. You can turn this off under Settings → Chada Duplicate → Copy prices if you prefer to set pricing fresh on every clone.

Variable products and variations in detail

When you duplicate a variable product, Chada Duplicate:

  1. Creates the new parent product post as a draft.
  2. Queries all variation posts that belong to the original parent.
  3. For each variation, creates a new product_variation post and copies all of its meta (price, stock quantity, stock status, weight, dimensions, image, download files, etc.).
  4. Sets the post_parent of each new variation to the new parent product’s ID.

The result is a fully independent copy of the product with its own set of variation posts. Editing the original’s variations after duplicating does not affect the clone, and vice versa.

After duplicating a product

  • The clone opens as a Draft — publish it when it is ready.
  • Review the SKU and update it to your preferred value.
  • If Copy prices is disabled, set the regular price before publishing.
  • All variations are present in the Variations tab and ready to edit.
